Society for development of Rural Literature- a non governmental, non profit organization was registered under Society Registration Act, Government of Orissa (Registration No.: SRA/5001-40/BBSR/93-94). The society has the following vision:-

In memory of Prafulla

Prafulla was born in village Khairang into a family of a schoolteacher on 11.09.1959. He was exceptionally brilliant as a student and topped the list in the High School Certificate examination in Orissa. While at school he won many prizes in state-level debate and essay competitions. He was adjudged the best debater of Ravenshaw College and Utkal University. His editorship of Urmi, the magazine of West Hostel, and the essays he contributed to many magazines revealed his promise as a writer and his deep feeling for literature. After completing post-graduate studies he slipped into severe depression which led him to end his life at the young age of 22 in 1981.

Rural Library

Prafulla Pathagar, a public library, was set up in Orissgarh, in Jagatsinghpur discrict, Orissa in 1993 in memory of a talented boy from the village, Prafulla, who died young.

M/s. Shri Guru Foundation, which is funded by Prof. Sadasiv Ray, who was born and brought up in a nearby village, provides free medical treatment in the premises of the library.

Culture

The Society organizes state-level Pala competitions. In 2008, eighteen troupes were short listed out of sixty-seven troupes through a voice test. These troupes were invited to the library and performed for the duration of an hour each.
